Top 5 Good and Bad India's Person of the Year 2013

Top 5 Good and Bad
India's Person of the Year 2013

1. Arvind Kejriwal
2. Virat Koli
3. Ratan Tata
4. Raghuram Rajan
5. Yashraj Kandya

Arvind Kejriwal: Person of The Year

Mr Arvind Kejriwal [ An IITian and Ex IRS ]  is the creator of a new matrix of clean politics, without the traditional baggage of caste, community, religion and region.
To them, he is a radical minus the slogans; someone who can battle and eliminate corruption, and improve everyday lives. Even his foes are realizing now that he is perhaps more than a cocky peddler of impossible dreams that they made him out to be; rather, he is emblematic of an idea whose time has come. Kejriwal and his party have sought to exorcise the society from corruption and help the disempowered exercise what they have been disentitled from. 45-year-old former IRS officer's public conduct has altered the very idea of what a politician and a political party should be. At a time when red beacons typify the vulgarity of power and when Z-security is seen as a status symbol, he has refused both. The Aam Aadmi Party, which he leads, has set benchmarks for participative democracy, making common people feel valued. AAP volunteers have gone door to door asking people what they wanted to be included in the manifesto. "Political parties deal in creating distances. Kejriwal has reduced distances between the politician and the people,"

His methods have been astonishingly inventive.
Right from the way he has handled cadres, used available finance and set up the campaign, he has displayed creative imagination.
It's remarkable the way he has mobilized ordinary people to press for legislation, the way he has used traditional as well as social media and the way he shifted gears from activism to electoral politics in such a short period.

2. Virat Kohli: Coming to the four

In a year in which he smashed one ODI record after another, Virat Kohli made his most significant statement in a Test match. As India braced for the daunting task of going up against world No 1 South Africa in their backyard, Kohli was asked to bat at No 4 - a slot previously occupied by a man many consider the greatest cricketer of all time.

If that wasn't a big enough challenge, Kohli also had to contend with the most hostile pace attack now operating in cricket, on a pitch very different from the batsman-friendly Indian tracks on which he had just slaughtered an Australian attack rendered impotent by fielding restrictions in ODIs. Was he nervous? Far from it. He claims to have been "desperate" to bat at No 4 following the retirement of Sachin Tendulkar.

4. Raghuram Rajan: Guv to Luv

Dark clouds had gathered over the once lofty Indian economy earlier this year. The rupee was falling inflation was skyrocketing, and nervous foreign investors were pulling out money from the stock market. It was in these trying circumstances that Ra ghuram Rajan, the chief economic adviser in the finance ministry, took over as the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

But the IMF-trained economist hit the ground running, rattling off a series of measures to steady the ship. Among the steps he has taken are a comprehensive set of guidelines to tackle the thorny issue of bad loans, freeing branch licensing for banks, setting up panels to rework the monetary policy framework, and priority sector loans for banks. He has also hinted at allowing foreign investors more freedom in hedging against currency risks. The measured steps ushered in hope for Asia's third largest economy, helping lift the gloom and doom. The ease with which Rajan, 50, settled into the job also demolished the criticism that he lacked administra tive experience and was an outsider to the system at the central bank, used to civil servants as governors. In nearly four months that he has been in office at Mumbai's Mint street, where the central bank is head quartered, Rajan has earned several sobriquets from "The Guv", "Bond" to "Thailaivar" (The boss). Some have swoone his good looks while others have been awe struck by his 'beautiful mind. "He has done very well but he has to steer the monetary and banking ship at a time when waters though not stormy, remain choppy and winds could change.d over

Neverthe less I think most people would sleep more soundly knowing Raghu is on the bridge," Montek Singh Ahluwalia, deputy chairman Planning Commission, told TOI.

Dr Vijay Mallya -- Chairman and Managing Director, Kingfisher Airlines Ltd

The UB Group is one of India's largest conglomerates with annual sales of over US$ 4 billion and a market capitalization of approximately US$ 12 billion. The Group has diverse interests in brewing, distilling, real estate, engineering, fertilizers, biotechnology, information technology and aviation. It is also the largest Indian manufacturer of beverage alcohol (beer and spirits). Dr Vijay Mallya is the Chairman of the Group.

Mallya, 52, was elected by shareholders as Chairman of UB in 1983, at the age of 28. He previously assisted his father, the former Chairman, who passed away in the same year.

Prior to being entrusted with the responsibilities of a classical Indian corporate conglomerate, Mallya worked for the American Hoechst Corporation (now Sanofi-Aventis) in the US and with Jenson & Nicholson in the UK. Since 1980, he assisted his father, the then Chairman of The UB Group, in managing the important Brewing and Spirits Divisions and in re-launching the Kingfisher Brand of Beer. In 1983, the sales volume of the UB Spirits division was approximately 2.85 million cases and UB's beer business trailed behind that of Golden Eagle from Mohan Meakins. Also included in the Group were activities such as pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, paints, petrochemicals and plastics, the manufacture of electro-mechanical batteries, the manufacture of food products and carbonated beverages, a fast-food pizza chain and several medium and small scale industrial units.

Upon assuming the position of Chairman in October 1983, Dr. Mallya initiated the process of defining a corporate structure with performance accountability, inducting professional management and consolidating the unwieldy empire into individual operating divisions.

In 1988, Mallya became a non-resident Indian to pursue global opportunities and to transform The UB Group into India's first multinational company. While, in the initial stages, overseas representative offices had been commissioned, the real break came in 1988 when Mallya, in a leveraged buyout, acquired the global Berger Paints Group with operating companies across four continents. The exit strategy for this investment was profitably executed when Mallya successfully directed five Initial Public Offerings on the London, Singapore (Main Boards), Nairobi, Jamaica and Abidjan Stock Exchanges. The paints business was divested for significant value in 1996.

Mallya also founded a software company in the US in 1993 which was subsequently listed on the NASDAQ in 1996 and which provides a considerable window of opportunity to the vast US market.  He also initiated several ventures for the promotion and globalization of UB brands and, in particular, Kingfisher and McDowell.

In 1990, following the Government of India's liberalised economic policies, Dr. Mallya decided that the UB Group would only retain interests in businesses that were globally competitive and which did not depend upon fiscal tariff protection. He also decided to focus on areas of core competence and transformed the vastly diversified UB conglomerate into a handful of key operating businesses.

On entering the new millennium, The UB Group is considerably more focused and has dramatically increased value for its shareholders through its various operating businesses. Sales of the UB Spirits Division have touched 74 million cases (9 litres each) during the third quarter of the fiscal year 2007-08. In addition, this Division is one of only three in the world to own fifteen millionaire brands and at least five brands rated by Drinks International, UK to be amongst the ten fastest growing brands in the world in their respective categories. The market share of the Spirits Division in India is currently 60% and exports to the Middle East, Africa and Asian countries are growing rapidly.

In 2007, United Spirits Limited, the flagship of The UB Group, acquired a hundred percent of premium scotch distillers Whyte & Mackay and Liquidity Inc, a United States-based maker of specialty vodkas. The Delaware-based Liquidity Inc produces speciality brands like Pinky Vodka and Marakesh.

The UB Group's Brewing Division has also assumed undisputed market leadership with a national market share in excess of 48%. Through a process of aggressive acquisition and market penetration, The UB Group today controls 60% of the total manufacturing capacity for beer in India. The flagship brand, Kingfisher, is now sold in over 50 countries worldwide having received many accolades for its quality.

Kingfisher, one of the flagship brands of The UB Group, has partnered with NDTV, India's leading broadcast group in a first-of-its-kind media alliance for the promotion of NDTV Good Times. The NDTV Good Times channel would leverage from the editorial credibility and quality of the NDTV group and the strong lifestyle appeal of the Kingfisher brand and icon, to offer Indian viewers a world-class television entertainment experience.

The UB Group's Kingfisher Airlines was today the Biggest disputed market leader in India's booming aviation market. In the short span of just under three years since it was launched, Kingfisher Airlines has redefined the whole experience of flying and has raised the bar by unleashing a host of product and service innovations. It has received over thirty awards since its inception.

Kingfisher Airlines offers full service and promises an unparalleled experience to the Indian air traveller. On offer are the plushest sleeperette seats in the Indian skies with a 48 inch pitch, 125 degree recline, adjustable headrests and fully extendable footrests. In-flight entertainment has been taken to a new level with the introduction of live television to compliment the latest and finest audio and video on demand system that is available.

With the merger of Air Deccan and Kingfisher Airlines, the airline covers all segments of air travel from low fares to premium fares and offers the maximum number of flights offered by any single airline network in India. India's largest domestic Airline connects 71 cities and has 549 daily departures. The combined entity of Kingfisher Airlines currently operates a fleet of 49 brand new Airbus A-320 family aircraft and 30 ATR aircraft. Now Airlines Closed Operations and mor then 6000 Staff are Awaiting for Salaries.

In 2007, Mallya made a strategic and significant investment in Epic Aircraft, a US-based aircraft manufacturing company specializing in high performance Airplanes-Very Light Jets (VLJ). VLJs are a new breed of aircraft, developed through innovative technology and manufacturing processes that have reduced the cost of a jet by up to 60%, potentially transforming the economics and convenience of owning and operating private jets.

Mallya is the Chairman of public companies both in India as well as in the US.  He has been the Chairman of Aventis Pharma India (previously Hoechst) as well as the Chairman of Bayer Crop Science in India (previously Agrevo) for over 20 years, in addition to his Chairmanship of several other corporations.

Vijay Mallya is married twice. His first wife was Sameera and they have a son together, named Sidhartha Vijay Mallya. Later on, he married Rekha and has two daughters Leana Mallya, Tanya Mallya.

Top 5 Big Mistakes Entrepreneurs and Business Owners Make

$1 Investing Your own Capital  Without Grasping the Financials
Many of new Entrepreneurs decide to start their new Business without considering the monetary outlay involved in the Effort. Bootstrapping your way to an operational Business may work out if your costs are reasonably low.
Unfortunately, many Blog Owners and Founders overspend their way into trouble by getting their feet wet before much planning is done. Look at Your budget and get a good grasp on how you plan to Finance your Business before you get going.

$2 Not Doing enough Market Research
This seems to be a Fairly Common Problem. A lot of creative minds out there get lots of Fresh and Innovative Exciting Business Ideas which are then turned into Business pursuits. However, not all wonderful Ideas are worthy of your Investment, something that sufficient research will uncover.

$3 Not Focusing on Your Target Market.
If you’re not clear as to who your target audience or market is, you may have some problems positioning your product. But even if you know who your audience is, you’ll still need to execute a sales or marketing strategy that focuses on this audience.

$4 Not Having very Clear Goals and a Clear Mission.
How will you measure your success ?
What are you trying to achieve ?
Without any form of planning or roadmap, you may just be groping in the dark when it comes to steering your Business towards a profitable end. If you haven’t identified your goals for your Business, how would you know you’ve reached success ?

$5 Hiring People you like vs People you need.
A company is not a social club: you need a variety of critical skills to build your Venture and different points of view to make your Business Succeed.
Be aware that if you hire only people you like, you may be building too Homogeneous a Work Force.
So Hire People you respect but not necessarily agree with all the time.

Although it has been proven by a lot of successful entrepreneurs that a great Business Idea had just popped out of nowhere at the most unexpected place and time. This is not always the case. Indeed, it did happen to them, but that does not mean it will happen to you too.

First of all, the most important factor to consider for you to come up not just with great entrepreneur Ideas, but also an effective one that can compete with other existing Businesses is to the meet needs of the people. Find out what are the things people want to have or certain necessities they cannot live without. Ponder on those things that they buy on a regular basis and list down all the possible answers you can think of. Follow your Passion.

Second, go through the list you have created a while ago and check if there is any, in particular, that fits your interests or a field that you consider you are an expert in. If cooking is your passion, and you think people cannot live without food, then a restaurant would be a great choice of to be your Business. If you include clothes as a basic necessity by many people, especially women, and you are a fashion design graduate. A clothes shop or an apparel line is the best Business for you. You should only approach media that cover your type of Blog or Business.  This means that you’ll need to read, listen to or view these media outlets prior to pitching them.
Once you determine that your Business or Blog is a good fit for their editorial coverage, you need to find the right contact.  You can do this in several ways:
Call up the media outlet and ask who the person is who covers your area
Look at the print masthead or producer credits
Search online
Buy a list – you can find these online

Then you need to pitch the contact. Include why your Blog or service is a great fit for that media outlet, as well as a Blog or service description.

Don’t forget to include your contact information.

You can pitch via an email.  Here, you can see a sample pitch for a Blog or service Business.

Step 3: Follow Up

This is the part that trips up most do-it-yourself publicists and even P.R. folks.  Once the media has expressed interest in your Blog or service, you must be persistent in contacting them.

Often you’ll need to follow-up with them several times, via the phone or email, until you have gotten media coverage.

By following these steps, your chances of getting publicity are greatly increased.  And once you get publicity, you’ll see more buzz, more sales and more credibility for your Business.

Happiness

Fisherman Village

Rich Businessman   :  Mr Peter George
Fisherman                :  Mr Mike DeSilva
City                          :  Toledo Bend Lake Texas in USA

At Fisherman's Village is at the Heart of Toledo Bend, Just West of Carrice Creek Bridge and only a mile West of Pendleton Bridge you'll find yourself at the heart of all that's going on at Toledo Bend Lake. Located on Texas Highway 21/103 (Highway 6 on the Louisiana side) Fisherman's Village is at the only point to cross Toledo Bend Lake between Texas and Louisiana in USA, easy access to all that's going on around the lake in 2 states !

There was once a Businessman who was sitting by the Beach in a small Village Toledo Bend Lake. As he sat, he saw a Fisherman Mike rowing a small Boat towards the Shore having caught quite few big Fish.

The Businessman was impressed and asked Mike,

Mr Peter George : How long does it take you to catch so many Fish ?

Mike replied : Oh, just a short while

Then why don’t you stay longer at Sea and catch even more?” The Mr Peter George was astonished.

This is enough to feed my whole Family,  Mike  said.

The Mr Peter George then asked, “So, what do you do for the rest of the Day ?

Mike  replied,  Well, I usually wake up early in the Morning, go out to Sea and catch a few Fish, then go back and play with my Kids.

In the Afternoon, I take a nap with my Wife, and evening comes, I join my buddies in the Village for a Drink — we play Guitar, sing and Dance throughout the Night.

Mr Peter George offered a suggestion to Mike

I am Mr Peter George PhD in Business Management.

I could help you to become  More Successful Person. From now on, you should spend more time at Sea and try to catch as many Fish as possible.

Lets Make a Big Business Plan.

Buy a Lap Top, Get Net Connection, Open Facebook and Linkedin Accounts Dont Worry Mike I would help you :-)

When you have saved enough Money,  you could buy a Bigger Boat and catch even more Fish. Soon you will be able to afford to buy more Boats, set up your own Company Mike Fish Co, your own Production Plant for Canned Food and Distribution Network. By then, you will have moved out of this Village and to Sao Paulo, where you can set up Headquarters to manage your other Branches.”

The Fisherman Mike continues, “And after that?”

Mr Peter George laughs heartily,

After that, you can live like a King in your own House, and when the Time is right, you can go Public and float your Shares in the Stock Exchange, and you will be Rich like Mr Peter George [ Me ]

Mike asks, “And after that?”

Mr Peter George says,

“After that, you can finally retire, you can move to a House by the Fishing Village, wake up early in the Morning, catch a few Fish, then return home to Play with Kids, have a nice Afternoon Nap with your Wife, and when Evening comes, you can join your buddies for a Drink, play the Guitar, sing and Dance throughout the Night!”

Mike was puzzled,  ? ?

Isn’t that what I am Doing Now  ?

Happiness has very Different Meanings for Different People

Happiness has different meanings for different People. For some, Happiness means Money, for some it means playing with Children; for some it means expansion of Business, for some it means planting a Tree.

Happiness is defined as a Mental or Emotional State of well-being characterized by Positive or pleasant Emotions ranging from Contentment to intense Joy. Some also define it in terms of living a Good Life or flourishing, rather than just an Emotion.

In the present World, the Happiness Quotient is getting measured in materialistic terms. As people are becoming more-and-more Rich, they are automatically being rated as Happy. But is it really the fact ? Are the Richest people the Happiest ? Lets find out.

Money can make you able to Feed, Clothe and House yourself. But, once you are able to do it, each extra Rupee does not make much of a difference. As-soon-as these basic needs are met, Money only boosts Happiness if we have more than our Friends, Colleagues and Neighbours. So, there is a limit to which Money can make us Happy.

There is something called as ‘Aspiration Gap’. It means the Gap between what people already have and what they aspire to have. Amazingly, Studies have found out this Gap to be inversely Proportional to Happiness. It has shown that the larger the Gap, the less happier people are and vice versa. This explains why we are never satisfied with our Salary increases. This explains why our List keeps on becoming longer, when we acquire the Goods we desire. This explains why we are never satisfied and why the Good Life always remains out of reach.

Some say that Intelligent people are happier. But, it has been found that brighter people have high Expectations from themselves and are thus dissatisfied with anything less than the Best. So, True Happiness has nothing to do with Intelligence also.

Now,   Just Sit Back and Analyze  YourSelf.

a) Were you not Happy when you saw a small cute Child talk in his cutish  Language?

b) Were you not Happy when you saw a Sparrow hopped on your Window and was trying to get inside?

c) Were you not Happy when you saw your Nation’s Flag fly high?

d) Were you not Happy when you heard your favourite Song running on the Radio and started humming it?

e) Were you not Happy when your Dog started wagging its Tail when it saw you at a Distance?

f) Were you not Happy when you saw a Youth helped an Old Woman cross the Road?

g) Were you not Happy when your Mother cooked your favourite Food after you went to your Hometown after a long time or when your Kid ran to you lovingly after you came home after a hard Day of Work?

h) Were you not Happy when you saw Droplets of Rain falling on Dry Earth?

i) Were you not Happy when you saw a Flock of Birds fly high on the Sky freely?

Of course, you were.

It has been discovered by many that Happiness is neither a Place you visit nor a Dream you achieve. Happiness is just Happiness. It comes from small things. We can feel it in our surroundings.

I am not saying we should not desire for Good Things in Life or aspire for more. In fact we must. That is the Mantra for progress. But, we should not attach ourselves to it emotionally. We should not find solace in our Successes or get distressed in Failures.

Our innate feeling of ‘Happiness’ is much bigger than this and we should not let these outer Things and outside World dictate our Lives.

Real Happiness is within you and if you keep your Hearts open, you will find it everywhere around you too.

“Happiest people don’t necessarily have the Best of everything; they just make the Best of everything they have.”

“Being Happy doesn’t mean that everything is Perfect. It means that you have decided to look beyond the imperfections.”
Finally, Happiness is just a state of mind.
