Would Major IT Companies honour all campus offers ? Due to Global Recession in IT Industry all Major IT Companies Like Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Micosoft, Yahoo are considering Deferment of Joining dates of All Campus Recruits.

Due to Global Recession in IT Industry all Major IT Companies Like Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Micosoft, Yahoo are considering Deferment of Joining dates of All Campus Recruits.

Falling margins and an unplanned salary increase have pushed Infosys to embark on a major austerity drive. The details are not clear yet, but it certainly includes a freeze on business class air travel and deferment of joining dates of 17,000 campus recruits.

The IT major's CEO, S D Shibulal, has sent a mail to employees saying that the company's expenditure for the year had risen too high on account of its Lodestone acquisition and salary increase. The mail goes on to say that the cost-cutting measures would be implemented in a phased manner.

A company spokesperson said, "In a tough business environment, Infosys has decided to take certain cost optimization measures. These are necessary for the company to continue making strategic investments and afford the rollout of the compensation increase."

The joining dates for campus recruits have been deferred for three months from the date of joining that was communicated to them previously. Several people tweeted that their joining dates had been extended to February; some said April.

The Infosys spokesperson said the company would honour all campus offers. The company has introduced an online training programme to keep these new hires engaged till they formally start work. "The completion of this training will not only give these recruits a headstart in their career with Infosys, but also reduce their planned six months training programme at our Mysore campus by up to two months," the spokesperson said.

Anticipating a bevy of queries from thousands of campus recruits for specifics around the deferred joining dates, Infosys has set up an exclusive online chat line. "This will help us address additional queries from them and also help them gather details about our online training programme. This will be in addition to our personal communication and addressing queries through emails," the company said.

There's also a freeze on long-haul business class air travel by its senior executives, including the CEO. "Business class is a privilege available to senior leaders in the company for long haul travel. In our drive to optimize travel costs, the senior leadership has decided to lead by example and forgo this privilege," the company said.

Infosys's operating margin has been dropping consistently for several quarters now. In the quarter ended December 2011, it had a 31.2% operating margin, but this was down at 26.34% in the last quarter. The September quarter alone saw a surprisingly sharp fall of 166 basis points. The salary increase of 6% announced last month, which many believe was done under pressure because rivals had given increments earlier in the year, will increase margin pressures in the coming quarters. Infosys normally announces salary increases in April, but this year it did not do so citing uncertain business conditions.

Economy Under Pressure Despite Recession Exit

30500

There is further evidence the UK economy is struggling to grow as activity figures suggest confidence remains weak.

The first snapshot of UK economic activity at the start of the fourth quarter paints a worrying picture for manufacturing despite the exit from recession.

The latest Markit/CIPS Purchasing Managers' Index for the manufacturing sector suggests a deepening contraction in activity during October - the first month of the final quarter.

The survey found that companies received fewer orders and costs rose at a faster pace, with the index falling to 47.5. A reading above 50 would show growth. It was the sixth consecutive monthly contraction in activity.

The finding throws open again the debate about whether the Bank of England will opt to extend its policy of quantitative easing beyond the current total of £375bn to boost money supply further in the economy.

That was thought unlikely to happen in November after the first estimate of UK GDP for the third quarter emerged last week.

Then, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) declared that the UK had left behind the longest double-dip recession since the end of the Second World War, measuring growth across the economy for the period at 1%.

The ONS had painted a largely rosy picture for industrial production and the powerhouse service sector but found that construction output dipped 2.5%.

In its latest economic forecast, the business lobby group the CBI backtracked on its last estimate that the UK economy would contract 0.3% during 2012.

It is now expecting a flat performance with growth remaining "relatively lacklustre" for the next two years.

Its figure for 2013 was also revised higher to 1.4%, up from 1.2%, and up to 2% in 2014.

The CBI said it was worried that the continued uncertainty in the eurozone would knock confidence for some time to come.

CBI director-general John Cridland said: "Despite the better than expected third quarter performance, the UK economy has bumped along the bottom this year, with overall growth fairly flat.

"While we expect underlying momentum to pick up modestly next year and to be slightly stronger in 2014, the pace will remain relatively lacklustre."

The CBI warned that risks to the economic outlook remain on the downside with the threat of the eurozone crisis and inflation now likely to be higher than previously forecast through 2013, as a result of rises to utility bills.

Captain Clarence Schollmeyer, of Killdeer killed in San Marcos, Texas, in a Twin Engine Cessna Aircraft Test Flight

Clarence Schollmeyer, 66, of Killdeer was killed in San Marcos, Texas, when the plane he was flying crashed early Thursday morning.

Trooper Robbie Barrera of the Texas Department of Public Safety said Schollmeyer was test flying a twin-engine plane when the plane crashed about 6 a.m. on federal land at the Gary Job Corps Center, near the San Marcos Municipal Airport.

Schollmeyer had taken off from the Airport and was headed back when the crash occured, Barrera said. The Associated Press reported Airport spokesman Stephen Alexander said the Cessna apparently burned on impact about a mile south of the airport.

San Marcos is 30 miles south of Austin.

Schollmeyer was the only person in the plane and no other injuries were reported, Barrera said.

Barrera did not know why the plane was being tested nor what caused it to crash. She said it was foggy in the area early in the morning when the crash took place.

Barrera said no one saw the crash occur. Witnesses saw a fire on the ground, she said.

The Federal Aviation Administration took over the investigation around 10 a.m., Barrera said.

Schollmeyer’s son, Mike Schollmeyer, said the FAA has said it won’t say anything to the family until the investigation is over.

Clarence Schollmeyer and Mike Schollmeyer farm together south of Dunn Center. Clarence Schollmeyer is also survived by his wife Andrea Schollmeyer.

Clarence Schollmeyer also was heavily involved in the Killdeer community, including recent efforts to rejuvenate the Killdeer airport.

“He had many big plans for that airport,” said Dan Dolechek, Schollmeyer’s former brother-in-law and mayor of Killdeer. “I hope someone carries on with that.”

Dolechek said Schollmeyer has been flying as long as he’s known him.

“He’s always been pretty passionate about flying,” he said.

Dolechek described Schollmeyer as a good friend who would “do anything to help anybody who was in need.”

Dr Vijay Mallya Left with No Resources to Restart KFAL DIAL also asks Kingfisher to vacate international business lounge at T3

Dr Vijay Mallya Left with No Resources to Restart KFAL

DIAL  also asks Kingfisher Airlines to vacate international business lounge at T3

NEW DELHI: Kingfisher troubles don't seem to end. After Airports Authority of India (AAI) asking it to vacate hangars at Chennai and Kolkata, the GMR-run Delhi Airport has asked it to give up the huge business lounge it has on the international side of terminal 3 (T3). The airline, which has not operated a single flight since October 1 and whose licence is suspended, had stopped international flights this March.

"Our business teams have told Kingfisher that it makes commercial sense for them to vacate the huge 90-100 square meter space they have occupied at T3 (international side) for business lounge since they don't have international flights. Their plan is to restart operations with about seven planes. Under current rules, an airline can't fly abroad till it has 20 aircraft in its fleet. So even if Kingfisher is able to restart operations, going overseas is a long way off," said a senior GMR official.

Kingfisher's combined dues for Delhi and Hyderabad airports (both operated by GMR) are about Rs 75 crore. The GMR Group has filed suits over bounced cheques. "The entire overdue amount needs to be securitized before Kingfisher can fly again from these places," said the official.

Kingfisher does not have any hangar at the GMR-run airports. A number of its planes are parked in open at the old international terminal of IGI Airport like "Christmas trees". "The airline used to take whatever parts it needed from the parked planes to keep its skeletal fleet flying before October 1. That's why they were nicknamed Christmas trees," said sources.

Meanwhile, some Kingfisher employees did not get the second pay cheque they were promised before end of October. Kingfisher EVP Hitesh Patel wrote a mail to employees: "I have received many SMS and calls reference salary. I can assure you that the salary for ALL employees was paid yesterday (October 31) as committed, in fact the full salary from various banks was debited from the KFA account and confirmed by us yesterday evening so I expect the balance of the employees to get the SMS today as the banks processes the salary."

The Kingfisher lounge was the only lounge by an Indian carrier at T3 international side. Air India's lounge is not ready yet. Emirates and Lufthansa are the only two airlines with lounges. All other airlines use two common lounges for their business and first class passengers.

Cloud computing can hurt many Jobs in Global Recession

Cloud computing, regarded as a boon for enterprises, could rain on the party of distributors and resellers who are now an integral part of the technology sales ecosystem. In developed economies, the community of resellers is already shrinking as software and hardware companies engage directly with enterprises. In India, where cloud adoption is just about gaining pace, the drizzle has begun.

"Given the nature of the cloud business, we see that it could be a threat. But the adoption rate is very slow and, therefore, we have a few years before we see signs of trouble," said Ratnesh Rathi, secretary at Computer & Media Dealers Association, whose 350-odd members do business in and around Pune.

Across India, some Rs 61,500 crore worth of hardware and Rs 18,000 crore worth of software products are sold every year, according to industry body Nasscom. And about 23,000 distributors, resellers and retailers - often called channel partners - are responsible for about four-fifths of total sales.

As enterprises move to the cloud for their computing requirements, both hardware and software are delivered over the internet rather than as physical assets that reside on customers' premises. This calls into question the role of channel partners.

Change is on the way, and it could be taking place sooner than many anticipate. A recent study by the Society for Information Management captured early signs of this change. Enterprises used to spend about 32% of their IT budget on in-house hardware in 2011, but that is down to 24% in 2012.

Gartner estimates that $326 million (Rs 1,760 crore) worth of cloud computing services were consumed in India, including software and hardware. Less than one in ten enterprises have adopted cloud computing at present, but the market is expected to grow at an average of 50% every year till 2015.

"Channel partners are facing the ripple effect of the changing times. As clients move to an operational expenditure model, vendors are asking suppliers to learn and change," said KR Chaube, director at Trade Association of Information Technology, or Tait, a group that represents the interests of distributors and resellers in and around Mumbai. "There is a lack of clarity about the cloud among channel partners."

Some channel partners are beginning to adapt to the changing environment. Among them are Bangalore-based Value Point Systems, a Hewlett-Packard partner for nearly two decades, and Kolkata-based Supertron Electronics that distributes Acer and Dell products. By investing in data centres and offering storage as a service, they are looking to evolve from mere box-pushers to value-added technology solution providers.

Ingram Micro, one of the biggest distributors with revenues of more than Rs 10,000 crore, announced partnerships with Microsoft, Salesforce, Netmagic, Zoho and Ramco to offer cloud-based solutions in both software and hardware.

But those such as Ingram and Value Point are exceptions to the rule. Few channel partners are aware of what they need to do to survive and fewer still are capable and equipped to do it. Vendors such as Microsoft and Dell try to help channel partners but ignorance and inertia stand in the way.

While channel partners in developed markets like Australia and Japan already use cloud-based solutions, Indian partners are less willing to change because their business is yet to be impacted in a significant way, according to a senior executive at Oracle.

"They are still getting business within their specialisation as a hardware-only partner or a network-only partner and this is making them unwilling to change," said Stuart Long, chief technology officer and senior sales consulting director for the Systems Division in Oracle's Asia Pacific and Japan region.

Senior analyst at Forrester Research Tirthankar Sen said that unless partners start building on the "cloud-quotient," they rule out the possibility of being able to growth with the cloud.

According to market researcher AMI Partners, only about 35% of channel partners are offering cloud-based solutions. The rest are exposed to the risk of becoming irrelevant as the cloud grows in size.
